Brilliant Barbera since 1871

Piedmont enjoys a lofty reputation amongst the world's greatest wine regions. Located in northwest Italy, this ancient landscape is home to respected names like Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera d'Asti and produces more DOCG wines than any other region in Italy.

Piedmont conjures visions of fog-veiled hills, truffle-sniffing dogs and a unique landscape with two key features which influence local winemaking: the colossal Swiss Alps and the breezy Mediterranean Sea. These two natural forces contribute to a wide day-night temperature variation to preserve aromas, adds freshness and maintains acidity to create an environment for vines to thrive.

Founded in 1871 by Luigi Ghione, the winery takes its name from a great family ancestor, Leone Ghione, whose winemaking origins date back to 1655. Countless generations of expertise have elevated this artisanal producer to its highest level of production ever. Farming sustainably and naturally, the wines show a purity of terroir and depth of nuance.

Le Muccie Barbera d'Asti Superiore

100% Barbera $35.99 per bottle

Barbera is certainly one of the archetypal Piemontese grapes, grown in the dreamy surroundings of the Monferrato hills. Compared to Nebbiolo, the general Barbera style is more in tune with contemporary consumer’s tastes: Bold, deep juice and marked with a punchy acidity.
