Discover the Mâconnais
Stretching from the coveted vineyards of Chablis in the north, down to Pouilly-Fuissé in the south, Burgundy has established a long-standing reputation of producing some of the most celebrated wines in the world. With a particular focus on Chardonnay, expressions of this varietal range from yellow citrus and crisp apple in the north, to riper examples of baked apple, pear and sometimes venture towards plum, peach and melon in the south.
The Mâconnais district is located in southern Burgundy, west of the Saône river, taking its name from the ancient town of Mâcon. It is best known as a source of good value white wines made from Chardonnay; the wines from Pouilly-Fuissé are particularly sought-after by connoisseurs. The vineyards are part of a breath-taking landscape where limestone and heavy clay soils combine to create a unique 'terroir' where Chardonnay can reliably thrive.
In 1989, the Pidault family bought Château de Pierreclos and transformed it into a winery. The Château was built between 887 and 926 and is now a private historic monument. The vineyard of Château de Pierreclos is made of eight hectares of vines located on high-quality parcels. Grape varietals include Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
