New Arrivals from Burgundy

With 2020 now behind us we are all hopeful that the Covid-19 pandemic will soon come to a close. Not soon enough for any of us. We hope you and your loved ones have remained safe and healthy through these challenging times.

If there has been any silver lining in this time it’s been that we have been able to enjoy good meals and fine wine with our Families. For me, and for many, that means opening up our specially saved bottles. What better occasion than surviving covid and sharing with your loved ones.

Although we missed socializing with you at our tasting events, it didn’t stop us from expanding our portfolio of wine offerings. During our annual trip to France, last visited in September 2019, we ventured into the Burgundy region to add Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to our list of grape varietals. We are delighted to introduce two new Châteaux.

In our ever-expanding search for wines, we also added a new producer from the Alsace region in France, the exceptional Jean-Paul Mauler. Our Mauler wines sold through extremely fast with many people reporting back that they loved these wines and can’t wait to get more. We have only a few bottles left but have more arriving in the next few months. As we push closer to spring we’re excited to be able to introduce some new Italian producers in the next coming months too.

Since we all can’t travel to the wine regions in France and Italy currently our hope is that by sharing our stories and opening a bottle we are bringing those regions to you. We thank you for your continued support and patronage and look forward to introducing you to even more fine wines in the weeks and months ahead.

Our first new producer is the fabulous Château de Pierreclos. The history of Château de Pierreclos dates back to 1989 when the Pidault family bought the estate and transformed it into a winery. The Château was built between 887 and 926 and is now a private historic monument. The vineyard of Château de Pierreclos is made of eight hectares of vines located on high-quality parcels. Grape varietals include Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

CHÂTEAU DE PIERRECLOS POUILLY-FUISSÉ 2017 100% Chardonnay $54.99 per bottle

Pouilly-Fuissé is home to the finest white wines in the Mâconnais district. A concentrated, linear profile sets the stage for macerated pear, granny-smith apple, vanilla bean, toasted oak, and lemon rind. High acid, medium+ body. Great food wine. Pair with chicken cordon bleu or Croque monsieur.

CHÂTEAU DE PIERRECLOS BOURGOGNE 2018 100% Pinot Noir $44.99 per bottle

Easy, Monday to Thursday wine. Huge fruit, tons of cranberry, cherry, and some rustic undertones. Very balanced with lively aromatics. Don't let the light colour fool you; this wine has punch. Would pair well with chicken or fish, yet complex enough for beef.

The second Burgundy producer that we’re pleased to present is Château de la Greffière, from the La Roche-Vineuse region, in Maconnais, located in the south of Burgundy. The estate has been creating excellent Burgundian wines for almost 100 years. Since 1924, Château de la Greffière has been a family estate belonging to the Greuzard family. Today it’s the 4th generation of that family which cultivates the four grape varietals of the estate: Chardonnay and Aligoté for white wines, with Pinot Noir and Gamay for their red wines.

CHÂTEAU DE LA GREFFIÉRE SAINT-VÉRAN 2019 100% Chardonnay $59.99 per bottle

Stunning. A generous, deep mix of fresh and cooked peaches, honey-drizzled almond granola, and a very slight iron note on the finish. As the southernmost appellation of Burgundy, Saint-Véran overlaps slightly with the northern edge of Beaujolais, offering a slightly warmer expression of Burgundian Chardonnay. Pair with New England clam chowder or chicken Cobb.

CHÂTEAU DE LA GREFFIÉRE ALIGOTÉ 2018 100% Aligoté $37.99 per bottle

Aligoté first emerged as a resulting cross between Gouais Blanc and Pinot Noir in Burgundy in the 17th century. They are delicious when young, or can be aged to their full glory. This is a fresh, fun wine with notes of hawthorn, white fruit, saline and hazelnut. Pair with Raclette, escargot, or sea asparagus.

CHÂTEAU DE LA GREFFIÉRE BOURGOGNE 2018 100% Pinot Noir $39.99 per bottle

This gorgeous Mâcon Château has wine activity records from 1585. They've transformed an old wine fermenting cellar into a museum. This Pinot is supple and elegant, yet aromatic and detailed. Lovely notes of dried cherry, earth, and toasted cedar. Pair with lightly spiced albacore tuna-belly or wild mushrooms.

CHÂTEAU DE LA GREFFIÉRE MÂCON SERRIÉR 2019 100% Gamay Noir $36.99 per bottle

Serriér is located in southern Burgundy, offering warmer days and sandy granite terroir; a place where Gamay Noir thrives and fussy Pinot Noir is pushed aside. 55-year-old vines give charming concentration. Aromas of cherry, soft spices, cassis, juniper and clove. Bright and fruity with a velvety, full structure. Pair with bold flavours like a Moroccan chicken tagine with apricots and olives.
