A Smaller Dinner Calls For A Grander Wine.
You may not be familiar with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, but you should be. Despite its long name, it makes delicious wines filled with preserved red cherry flavours. Similar in style to Chianti due to it being mostly made from Sangiovese, this is a great option if you love Tuscan wines and want something a little more refined.
The wines of Tuscany's Vino Nobile di Montepulciano enjoy a storied history dating back to the 8th Century. Receiving praise from Popes and poets as “the king of wines”, it is no wonder it was one of the first regions in Italy given DOCG status. If you are looking for a new Italian wine to try, this is a great bet.
Poggio alla Sala is located in the southern territory of Montepulciano where it borders on Chianciano and ancient Chiusi. A mystical and enchanted spot for the Etruscans, Poggio alla Sala, today, represents and preserves all the elements of a piece of Tuscan history. The Riserva is made from carefully selected native vines and cultivated in optimum production areas with the objective of enhancing quality and biodiversity, which the family succeeds in exalting.
My personal favourite of all our Italian portfolio! Riserva wines require thirty months of maturation in medium-size Slavonian oak casks followed by at least six months of refinement in the bottle giving a richer, deeper expression. $59 for a high-quality Riserva is a steal and we were lucky enough to acquire special pricing from the Gattavecchi Family!

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva D.O.C.G 2013
Blueberry, dewy violet, baking spice and a touch of espresso on the nose. The rounded, generous palate with supple tannins offers baked plum, flesh blackberry, licorice and a hint of mocha. Pair with New York strip, fatty game, well-seasoned cheeses.
